NMOHVA Cancels 7 Trails of Gold event in Grants Due to Forest Closure

(Updated: 05/15/2018)

To all our generous contributors,

NMOHVA regrets to inform you that the Mt. Taylor District of the Cibola National Forest will move to Stage III Fire Restrictions effective May 21, 2018. This means that all District lands, including Mt Taylor and the Zuni Mountains, will be closed to the public during the 7 Trails of Gold NMOHVA event. We will be prevented from "going into or being upon the restricted area." Therefore, the NMOHVA Board has decided to cancel the 2018 event.

We understand that everybody has made significant contributions towards NMOHVA for a fun filled event. Our Treasurer will be going through all the received registrations, matching them against our Paypal transactions and will be issuing refunds for the total contribution sent to NMOHVA. This means that all funds sent to us, to include membership dues and renewals, Access Defense Funds donations, event registrations, meal tickets, and t-shirts orders. We are very disappointed by this turn of events; however, we are very concerned about keeping our forest free of more potential fires.

While we are disappointed that we will not be able to meet with old friends and make new friends, we back the Forest Service’s decision to close and protect our New Mexico forests. We understand this is a difficult decision, however protecting these excessively dry forests for another season is of great importance.

Watch your Paypal accounts for your returned transactions from NMOHVA.

Again, thanks for all the support and we hope to see you at next year's event.
