The Preliminary Draft Forest Plan describes the strategic direction for management of forest resources into the future. The plan includes desired conditions, standards, and guidelines for resource management based on the need for change.

The documents can be found on Lincoln National Forest Planning webpage at https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/lincoln/landmanagement/planning/?cid=STELPRD3814307

Comments can be summited now until July 31, 2019, in the following ways:

  • Attending a community meeting and completing a comment card.
  • Email: Please email comments to [email protected].
  • Mail: Lincoln National Forest. Attn: Plan Revision. 3463 Las Palomas Rd. Alamogordo, NM 88310

The Lincoln National Forest highly encourages feedback on both documents. Your feedback will help us improve the draft plan and will help guide us as we make decisions on the future economic, social, and ecological conditions and trends in and around the national forest.

“I am encouraged by the number of people who are showing interest in this important planning process.  I have talked to a wide variety of interests who are willing to share their knowledge about current conditions and what they would like to happen on the forest,” stated Forest Planner Diane Prather. “Additionally, I want to thank stakeholders who provided feedback during the Assessment Phase of this project.”

The next step of Forest Plan Revision will be to review public feedback on the Preliminary Draft Forest Plan and Need for Change, identifying issues raised by the public, and developing alternatives to address the concerns. We will also initiate the wilderness inventory and evaluation process and the wild and scenic river inventory and eligibility evaluations. Also, the Lincoln National Forest will continue engaging with the public.
